WHO ARE THEY?
( Akron) Manchester classes 1944 thru 1960 — all students who attended the "Old " High School on Manchester Road, prior to the new high school opening in 1961.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN:
Manchester's earliest graduating classes , 1944 and 1945, founded the "Old School Alumni" group on the occasion of their 50-Year Reunion. In the years following that milestone, an annual event grew to include all 17 classes from the original Manchester High School building . This unique alliance is a separate forerunner of the Manchester Alumni Association, which was formed in 2001 to include grads from both the old and new high schools.
"OLD SCHOOL" ENDURING LEGACY:
Old School alumni members have generously contributed , to date, over $8,000 to the MHS Alumni Scholarship fund, which annually provides $2,000 to a deserving senior for their college education.
ANNUAL "OLD SCHOOL" REUNION :
A yearly reunion of all Old School members began as a picnic , but the group quickly outgrew two previous locations. The event is now a catered dinner at the beautiful Coventry Oaks Pavilion in Firestone Metro Park, located off S. Main Street near the Firestone Country Club. Attendance averages between 125 – 150. ALL former '44 – '60 students are welcome at the reunions (whether you graduated or not), as well as any former teachers. It's a great time to reminisce and renew old Panther friendships!
2008 REUNION RESERVATIONS:
Next year's Old School Alumni reunion-dinner will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2008 . The cost is only $11 per person, which covers the food, rentals and mailing costs - and reservations are necessary. If you do not regularly receive an invitation to the event, please contact Joe Slayman [Class of '54] at 330-882-4173, or email Marilyn (Combest) Young [Class of '51] at midgee33@aol.com.
